Two men have been charged after a man sustained critical injuries during an alleged assault in Fortitude Valley last night.
Police will allege two men were walking along on Water Street when they became involved in a verbal altercation with two unknown male occupants of a nearby apartment block around 8.45pm.
Police say that two men from the apartment block, one armed with a crow bar, then came downstairs and confronted the other two men on Trinity Street.
A further verbal altercation took place before a man from the apartment allegedly punched one of the other men, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.
Police attended the scene a short time later and arrested a 28-year-old man. A 29-year-old man was located at a nearby unit complex and also taken into custody.
The alleged victim, a 37-year-old Fortitude Valley man, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the altercation and was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.
A 29-year-old Logan Central man has since been charged with grievous bodily harm and 28-year-old Fortitude Valley man charged with going armed so as to cause fear and two counts of common assault.
Both are due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
