Geelong detectives have arrested a 32-year-old man following the horrific alleged stabbing of a 73-year-old woman in South Geelong last night.
Police say the woman was walking home from a family member’s house along Mundy Street at around 7pm when the shocking incident occurred.
“When she reached the corner of Bellarine Street, it’s alleged a man approached her from behind and stabbed her several times before walking away,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“The South Geelong woman managed to seek assistance from a residence on Mundy Street and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”
Investigators arrested the South Geelong man at his address a short time later.
He remains in custody, assisting investigators with their enquiries, police said.
