Body of missing man found in floodwaters at Hillston

A body, believed to be that of missing man 63-year-old man, Phillip Alvaro, has been recovered from floodwaters in the state’s west.

Police say Mr Alvaro (pictured) was last seen on a rural property on Lachlan Valley Way at Hillston, about 12pm on Tuesday.

“When he did not return several hours later, police were notified and commenced a search operation at the property,” NSW Police said in a statement.

A search involving officers from Murrumbidgee Police District, PolAir, Police Rescue, NSW SES, and NSW Ambulance was conducted along the Lachlan River, however, the man was not located yesterday.

“About 8.30am today, emergency services received reports that a body had been sighted on a rural property at Wallanthery, about 35km north-east of Hillston,” Police said.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District, with assistance from NSW SES, attended the property and retrieved the body.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of Mr Alvaro, police said.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death continue and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
