WA Police are investigating a shocking incident in Victoria Park yesterday which saw an 82-year-old woman robbed of her necklace – with her assailant ripping the jewellery from her neck as she tried to fight him off with her walking stick.
Cannington Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance for information to assist with their investigation into the incident.
“Around 5pm, the woman was walking along the footpath on McMaster Street heading towards Albany Highway when a male person confronted her and grabbed a necklace she was wearing,” WA Police said in a statement today.
“The woman attempted to stop the man with her walking stick but he managed to rip the necklace from her neck before running down McMaster Street towards Albany Highway.”
The man is described as about 19 years old, with olive skin, a slim build, approximately 160cms tall, wearing a dark coloured t-shirt and white cap.
“Detectives wish to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, particularly those that ran to assist the woman, two cyclists who were riding nearby, and any motorists,” Police said.
