Police nab six Victorians entering NT from COVID hotspots

Northern Territory Police this morning issued six infringements to people attempting to enter the Northern Territory from hotspots without the appropriate exemptions.

Police say four Victorian workers were travelling on flights booked by their employers, however no exemptions had been sought and the workers were refused entry.

“They were accommodated for a night in Howard Springs while return flights were arranged,” NT Police said in a statement.

“A Victorian resident has received an infringement after he allegedly attempted to use Howard Springs as a conduit to travel into Queensland. He had not sought an exemption to do so and was refused entry to the NT.”

Another female, also from Victoria, was caught attempting to enter the Northern Territory but had not sought an exemption to travel and was also refused entry.

Incident Controller Sachin Sharma said, “The rules for entering the Northern Territory from a hotspot changed recently and are clearly outlined on coronavirus.nt.gov.au.”

“The onus is on the traveller to ensure they have lodged and received the necessary exemptions to enter the Northern Territory. If you don’t have an exemption or you are not a returning resident, you should not be travelling to the NT from a hotspot.”
