Damian Smith grew up in the wild beauty of the Snowy Mountains, surrounded by the sounds of the bush and the call of adventure.
Born into a long line of bushmen, he spent his childhood exploring the outdoors, learning the rhythms of the land, and developing a lifelong love of the Australian landscape.
That same curiosity carried him across Australia and eventually across the world. After meeting his wife, Lyn, the pair turned travel into a shared passion — raising three children who grew up sleeping under the stars and exploring faraway places. From riverside campsites to international adventures, their lives were stitched together with stories of discovery, resilience, and joy.
While Damian spent over 50 years building a successful career as a pharmacist — and becoming a much-loved member of the Blue Mountains community — his heart never strayed far from the road. Even at the height of his career, adventure was always on the horizon.
When retirement finally came, Damian didn’t slow down. Instead, during the quiet of 2020, on a caravan trip with Lyn through the Australian bush, a new idea began to take shape. Drawing on decades of travel experience, he started designing practical solutions for life on the move — simple tools that could make everyday caravanning and camping adventures including meal time easier and more enjoyable.
That idea grew into Daymo — a family-run venture focused on thoughtful, quality travel and kitchen camp products designed by travellers, for travellers. Daymo became a new chapter for Damian — a way to keep building, creating, and whilst spending quality retirement with the people who matter most.
Today, his children and grandchildren are deeply involved in every part of the business, from development and testing the latest camp oven to accompanying Daniel at camping shows for customer connection. It’s become a true legacy project — one that’s not only shaped by Damian’s experience, but enriched by the energy and enthusiasm and togetherness of his next generation.
At 72, Damian says he feels more inspired than ever.
“You’re never too old to start something new. Daymo has given me a way to keep learning and building something meaningful with the people I love most.”
What began with one man’s love for the outdoors has become a multigenerational legacy— one rooted in the idea of his family sticking together in carrying the Daymo torch into the long term future.
