Woman charged over triple fatal house fire

The young couple had just welcomed their first child into the world – all three perished in the blaze.

Police have charged a 46-year-old woman with murder and arson causing death following a fatal house fire in Point Cook yesterday morning that claimed the lives of a couple and their three-week-old baby.

The woman was arrested by arson squad detectives this morning in Airport West.

“She has been charged with three counts each of murder and arson causing death,” Victoria Police said in a statement this afternoon.

“The charges follow a fatal house fire in Totem Way on Wednesday morning about 3.40am that claimed the lives of a 19-year-old woman, 28-year-old man and a three-week-old baby girl.”

Police say they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the blaze. The matter will be heard at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later this evening.
