RSPCA South Australia is seeking the public’s assistance to identify the individual or individuals responsible for abandoning three five-week-old kittens in a rubbish bin in Peterborough.
At approximately 9:30am on Wednesday June 17th, a cleaner heard the kittens meowing from inside a bin as she approached the public toilets on Princess Street. She immediately alerted the Peterborough Council, which then contacted RSPCA South Australia.
The kittens were safely rescued and, aside from having ringworm, are in good condition. They are currently being cared for at RSPCA South Australia’s Animal Care Campus in O’Halloran Hill.

Abandoning an animal is an offence under South Australia’s Animal Welfare Act, and anyone found guilty can face up to two years imprisonment or a $20,000 fine.
Additionally, aggravated cruelty charges where an animal suffers serious harm or death can result in up to four years imprisonment or a $50,000 fine.
