A 61-year-old Tweed Heads woman will face court next month in relation to a fire on Russell Island last year that claimed the lives of a six people and destroyed three houses.
The fire occurred at Todman Street, Russell Island on August 6 last year, claiming the lives of father, Wayne Godinet and his five children – Zac, 11, Harry, 10, four-year-old twins Kyza and Koah, and Nicky, three. The children’s mother, 28-year-old Samantha Stephenson, escaped the blaze.
“It will be alleged the woman is the owner of the property and was not present when the fire occurred. It will be further alleged the house did not have compliant smoke alarms,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
The woman has been served a notice to appear on one count of owners must install smoke alarms. She is expected to appear at the Cleveland Magistrates Court on March 26. Â Â
“Detectives continue to investigate the fire and a final report is expected to be submitted to the Coroner in the near future,” Police said.
