Territorians invited to sign condolence book for US Marines

Territorians are being invited to sign an official condolence book, which will be presented to the United States Government from the people of the Northern Territory in the wake of the tragic aircraft crash that killed three United States Marines on Melville Island a fortnight ago.

From today until Wednesday September 13th, members of the public can visit the Main Hall in Parliament House to sign the book.

Three marines (pictured) were killed in the crash – Captain Eleanor V LeBeau, Corporal Spencer R Collart and Major Tobin J Lewis. Their bodies were brought back to Darwin last week before being repatriated to the US.

The Osprey aircraft was carrying 23 marines when it crashed. Three others remain in hospital.

“The relationship between the United States and the Northern Territory is historic, special and unbreakable,” the Northern Territory Government said in a statement.

“The Territory has warmly embraced the presence of MRF-D over the past 11 years, and the loss of life and injury in this incident is keenly felt by both Australian and American communities.”

The United States Government and its people are deeply appreciative of the care that has been shown to MRF-D during this difficult time, the NT Government said.
