What started as a simple idea to bring people together through music and movement has blossomed into a thriving community on the NSW Central Coast.
Let’s Dance Central Coast celebrated its one-year anniversary this week, marking 12 months of connection, laughter, and dance at the Kincumber School of Arts.
Launched in April last year, the weekly Tuesday morning class was created to offer an inclusive, low-impact dance session set to feel-good music from the 60s to now. One year on, that vision has come to life in ways that go far beyond the dance floor. Participants have formed genuine friendships, regularly connecting both inside and outside the hall, creating a supportive and uplifting community built around shared joy and movement.
Led by local creative producer and performer, Kate, he classes are designed especially with older adults and retirees in mind, while remaining open to anyone who wants to move, connect, and enjoy an hour of uplifting music in a relaxed, judgement-free space.
“Over the past year, I’ve watched strangers become friends,” says Kate.
“People now meet for coffee, check in on each other, and genuinely care about one another. That sense of community is exactly what Let’s Dance was created for, and it’s been beautiful to see it grow.”
Following the success of the Kincumber class, Let’s Dance Central Coast is now expanding with a new weekly session held every Monday from 11am–12pm at the Adelene Village Hub in Wyoming. The additional class offers another opportunity for locals to experience the same welcoming, low-pressure environment that has made the Tuesday sessions so popular.
In addition to the public classes, Kate also works with disability groups, bringing tailored movement sessions to participants who benefit from gentle exercise, music, and social connection in an inclusive and supportive setting.
Each class remains low-impact and easy to follow, with no experience required. Participants are encouraged to move in whatever way feels comfortable, with singing along strongly encouraged.
“Life is busy, and it’s easy to forget to do things purely for joy,” says Kate.
“This is an hour where none of that matters. You just show up, move your body, and leave feeling lighter.”
