Tasmanian man, 61, fined on return from Melbourne

A 61-year-old Tasmanian man has been issued with a $1,557 fine after flying into Tasmania from Melbourne yesterday in breach of COVID-19 restrictions – his fourth attempt to enter the island state this month.

Police say the man arrived in Tasmania at around 12.05pm on a flight into Hobart International Airport and was subsequently processed by Biosecurity Tasmania.

“Checks of the G2G system found the man, who had been in regional Victoria, had been previously rejected on four separate occasions this month,” Tasmania Police said in a statement.

The man was ordered into government quarantine and issued with a fine for failing to comply with the lawful direction of an emergency worker.
