The Darling River Run beckons

Australian Seniors News shines the spotlight on a caravan expedition along the meandering banks of the Darling River, affectionately known as the Darling River Run.

A semi-retired couple armed with a spirit of adventure and a strong desire for finding the best tours for Seniors, recently set forth on an odyssey through the heartland of NSW, tracing the course of this iconic river.

Their 10-day journey began at the origin of the river situated roughly between the NSW western outback towns of Brewarrina and Bourke. From there, they travelled on to Broken Hill, Menindee, Willcania, Pooncarie and finally Wentworth, where the Darling meets the Mighty Murray River.

From the stoic resilience of the locals to the mesmerising beauty of the ever-changing waterway, every river bend and township is a testament to the enduring spirit of the NSW outback.

The Darling River Run is more than just a scenic route – it is a transformative experience that leaves an indelible mark on the soul.

Our voluntary travel writers say the highlights of their adventure included a relaxing and therapeutical soak in the Burren Junction Artesian bore baths; Aussie murals painted on the shop wall at Brewarrina (pictured, above); The Sculpture Trail at Broken Hill; and the diverse birdlife and breathtaking sunsets over Lake Menindee.

Silver City Tours, led by the esteemed Wincen Cuy, offers Seniors small and tailored group excursions along the Darling River Run.

Wincen is a major founding architect of this remarkable trail, which was officially branded and mapped during his tenure as Chairman of NSW Outback Tourism in the 1990s. His unmatched knowledge of this route and his 30 plus years working in NSW travel, assures guests an unparalleled insight into the landscapes and communities that line the river’s edge.

Silver City Tours is headquartered in Broken Hill. Wincen and his team will take you on an adventure deep into the outback, introducing you to the rhythm of life along the river.

For those eager to embark on their own Darling River Run adventure, the next group tour with Silver City Tours departs on September 23rd, promising an immersive journey guided by local experts with a passion for exploration and a genuine connection and care for Senior travellers.

Whether traveling solo, with loved ones, or joining a group of like-minded grey adventurers, the Darling River Run beckons with its untamed beauty and the promise of discovery around every bend.
