Police search for elderly owner of home destroyed by fire

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate the elderly owner of a house destroyed by fire in the state’s north.

Police say that at around 2.30am yesterday, emergency services were called to a home on Anne Street, Moree, following reports of a fire.

“Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze about 5.30am; however, the building was completely destroyed,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Police say no injuries have been reported as a result of the blaze.

“As part of inquiries, police are appealing for public assistance to help locate the owner and sole occupant of the home, a 75-year-old man.”

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, of medium build, with thinning, blond hair.

He may be travelling in a black Saab station wagon – NSW registration BQ52VJ – and could be in the Moonee Beach or Woolgoolga areas.
