War medals, engagement ring, $50,000 worth of jewellery lost in Toorak burglaries

Victoria Police are appealing for public assistance after war medals, an engagement ring, and $50,000 worth of jewellery were stolen in two burglaries at neighbouring properties in Toorak last month.

Investigators have been told an unknown offender forced entry to two residential premises on Stonehaven Court at about 6.30pm on Friday June 27th.

The offender stole a 2-carat diamond engagement ring from the first property, worth approximately $25,000.

Police say the same offender then forced their way into a neighbouring property, where they stole a safe containing approximately $50,000 of jewellery as well as four Army medals of high sentimental value to their owner.

Residents of each property were not home at the time.

Investigators have released CCTV and an image of a person (pictured, above) they believe can assist with their enquiries, as well as images of the items stolen in both burglaries.

“The significance of these items stolen makes it particularly distressing for these victims,” said Detective Senior Constable Daniel Wall, Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit.

“An engagement ring carries profound sentimental worth and it would extremely upsetting to have this taken away from you.

“The war medals belonged to the victim’s mother who has now sadly passed away, so you can understand how heartbreaking it must be for this family.

“We’re asking residents in the area to check their CCTV, and we’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area at the time. You can do so anonymously via Crime Stoppers.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
