Pedestrian, 82, dies after being struck by ute

An 82-year-old man has died after being struck by a ute in Brunswick East yesterday.

Victoria Police say a Ford Ranger allegedly hit the Brunswick West man while he was crossing the road at the intersection of Hope Street and Melville Road at around 9.45am.

“He was taken to hospital however died this morning,” Police said in a statement.

The Ranger driver, a 27-year-old man, stopped at the scene to assist.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives charged the Brunswick man with dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
