NT launches $5 million tourism push

The Northern Territory Government is set to launch its biggest summer tourism campaign ever, starting on October 1.

Designed to incentivise demand for the NT over the traditionally low season, Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Natasha Fyles says the $5 million NT Summer Sale campaign will partner with all the Australian shop front travel retailers including Holidays of Australia, Helloworld and Flight Centre to drive sales.

“The global pandemic has caused a lot of hurt for our Tourism and Hospitality operators. We know it’s been hard,” said Minister Fyles.

“Our largest ever summer tourism campaign will help drive visitation to the NT in what is our traditionally low period.

“If you’re considering visiting the NT, our message is clear. All Australians not located in a current hotspot are welcome to come to the Territory.

She said consumers will save up to $1,000 on an NT holiday booking made between 1 October 2020 and 31 March 2021 with travel also within these dates.

The sales promotion is based on a set discount of $200 for every $1,000 spent on an NT booking made through partners (up to a maximum of $1,000 discount), and will be valid for bookable flights, accommodation, tours and attractions or hire vehicle.

The Minister said the “unprecedented deal” would make the Northern Territory an even more attractive destination for domestic travellers from safe home ports, which will, in turn boost the local economy.

“Last year Aussies spent more than $64 billion on overseas holidays. With international travel on the backburner for a while yet, we’re encouraging everyone from areas where COVID-19 is contained to enjoy an adventure of a lifetime here in the NT,” she said.

“The Tourism and Hospitality industries have been some of the hardest hit as a by-product of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Australian travellers are looking for safe tourism options, closer to home in locations with COVID-19 under control.

“The NT has continued to be the safest place in Australia throughout the pandemic contributing to the Territory’s ability to open the door to domestic tourists to experience the adventure of a lifetime.”
