Mobility scooter rider abused and spat on in Southport

Police are appealing to the public for footage as part of their investigation into the assault of a 66-year-old disabled man at Southport.

Police say that at around 2.20pm on April 19, the man was riding his mobility scooter northbound along Ferry Road, approaching the intersection of Queen Street, when a woman who was not known to him jumped out of the bushes and confronted him.

“The woman verbally abused the man and spat in his face, before crossing six lanes of traffic and fleeing west on the southern side of Queen Street,” Police said.

The woman is described as African in appearance with bleached orange hair, aged in her late twenties, approximately 167cm (5.4) tall with a slim build. She was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

Police are now appealing to any witnesses, or anyone who may have captured mobile phone or dash-camera footage around the intersection of Ferry Road and Queen Street between 2.20pm and 3pm on Monday April 19, to come forward.
