A 26-year-old Zillmere man has been charged following investigations into the death of Ipswich couple Joe and Christine Stephan (pictured) at Collingwood Park on January 23.
The couple – aged 68 and 73 – were located deceased inside the bedroom of their Collingwood Park home after Police suspect they were killed prior to a fire being lit at the home.
The man has been charged overnight with two counts of murder, one count of arson and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
Queensland Police Detective Acting Superintendent Stephen Blanchfield thanked the community for the public assistance provided to date.
“We continue to appeal for anyone who may have dashcam footage in the area of Zillmere Road, Aspley and Robinson Road West, Geebung between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, January 22 to contact police.”
“Specifically, we remain interested in the movements of a black Mercedes Benz between those times which belonged to the victims and was allegedly stolen from the crime scene at Collingwood Park.
“While the vehicle has been located, any information regarding its movements is of great importance to us while investigations are ongoing,” Det A/Supt Blanchfield said.
On January 30, Police charged an 28-year-old man over the deaths, before dropping all charges just hours later.
