Man charged over CBD assault

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a serious assault on a 57-year-old man in Melbourne’s CBD earlier this month.

Police have been told the victim, a Richmond man, was at a function at a hotel on Swanston Street with work colleagues on Wednesday, March 2nd.

It is alleged the victim was assaulted as he left the venue about 11.50pm.

“The victim was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries,” Victoria Police said in a statement today.

“A 35-year-old Moorabbin man handed himself in to detectives this morning, following an appeal for information on 9 March.

“He has since been charged with intentionally cause injury and recklessly cause injury and two counts of unlawful assault.”

He has been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on August 15th.
