NSW Police have charged a man over the alleged murder of 72-year-old grandfather, Vincenzo Leonello, in Summer Hill earlier this year.
Police say that at about 6.30am on Monday 7 February, emergency services were called to Hardie Avenue following a concern for welfare report.
“A man was located unresponsive at the scene by a member of the public, who assisted him before officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command attended and commenced CPR,” Police said in a statement.
Despite their efforts, Mr Leonello died at the scene.
Following extensive inquiries and public appeals for information, a 56-year-old man was arrested at a home on Smith Street at Summer Hill about 10am today.
“The suspect is known to the victim, as they previously lived together in the same boarding house in Summer Hill,” Inspector Allcroft told The Daily Telegraph.
“We will allege the suspect (now accused) assaulted Mr Leonello, who died as a result.”
He was taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with murder.
The man was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today.
