Man carjacks vehicle at knifepoint

An investigation is underway after a man believed to be aged in his 50’s carjacked a vehicle, threatening the female driver with knife in the state’s south west.

Police say that shortly after 4pm yesterday, a woman parked her silver Volkswagen Polo in a carpark between Yambil Street and Canal Street in Griffith.

As the woman got out of her car, she was approached by a man who was armed with a knife. He threatened the female driver, demanding she put her handbag in the car, turn the engine on and walk away.

The woman complied and the man drove away in her Volkswagen. She was not physically injured as a result of the incident.

Officers from Murrumbidgee Police District attended and commenced inquiries.

Detectives would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a medium build, aged in his 50s, approximately 170-180cm tall, with short grey hair and a short grey beard. He was wearing a grey sports polo shirt, black coloured pants, a dark hooded jumper and black frameless sunglasses at the time.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
