Man, 79, bashed with golf club during burglary at Mermaid Waters

Queensland Police are investigating after a 79-year-old man was bashed with a golf club during a burglary at Mermaid Waters in the early hours of this morning.

In a statement, Police said that at around 1.30am today, four people wearing face-coverings forced entry to a unit on Bacardi Court.

“The group approached the 79-year-old male resident, who was sitting on a lounge chair, and struck him a number of times to the head with a golf club,” Queensland Police said.

“The group then took a knife from the kitchen and made threats before stealing the man’s wallet and keys to his 2018 Mercedes Benz.”

Police say they then fled the scene in the Mercedes Benz.

“Emergency services were notified and immediately attended. Officers located the resident with a laceration to the back of his head and facial injuries. He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital.”

Detectives are appealing to anyone who sights a 2018 red Mercedes Benz Cla220 bearing Queensland registration plates ‘TRN000’ to immediately contact police.
