A 65-year-old man has been located deceased following a fatal marine incident near Lady Elliot Island near Gladstone yesterday morning.
Queensland Police say a yacht was travelling from Yeppoon to Brisbane when it activated an Epirb approximately four nautical miles south of the island at 5am on Sunday.
Police and emergency services commenced a search and rescue operation involving multiple vessels, police divers and the rescue helicopter.
“Just after 10.15am, the rescue helicopter located two people in the water,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
The pair – a 62-year-old man and 27-year-old man, both from Yeppoon – remain in stable conditions at Bundaberg Hospital.
Just after 2pm, water police recovered the body of a 65-year-old Yeppoon man.
