Man charged with murder of missing 82-year-old

The body of missing 82-year-old Leppington man, Edwin Dobbin, has today been located following an extensive search in the Hawkesbury, with a 67-year-old man who was known to Mr Dobbin, charged with his murder.

In September, NSW Police received a report that Mr Dobbin had gone missing.

Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command immediately commenced investigations to locate him; however, he remained missing.

During the investigation, police identified Phillip Robert Bruce, 67, who had allegedly told officers conflicting information about the incident multiple times.

Following extensive investigations, officers arrested Mr Bruce at a home at Smithfield just before 3pm yesterday.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with murder, hinder investigation serious indictable offence of other and unlawful disposal of corpse. He remains before the courts.

Following the arrest, police executed a crime scene warrant at a property in Upper Colo where the body of the 82-year-old was believed to be buried.

Police continued to search the property today, and this afternoon a body was located.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing man.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause of the man’s death and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
