Man, 65, charged with murder of young woman missing since 1984

Detectives from Victoria’s Missing Persons Squad have arrested a 65-year-old man in NSW today as part of their investigation into the suspicious disappearance of Debra Campbell almost 40 years ago.

Today’s arrest is the culmination of a joint operation conducted by the Victorian Police Missing Persons Squad and the NSW Police Homicide Squad Unsolved Homicide Unit.

The 65-year-old man was arrested in Cardiff South and subsequently charged with murder when he faced Belmont Local Court today.

He will appear in court again on Friday in relation to an application to extradite him to Victoria.

Today’s arrest follows a public appeal in April this year for information in relation to Debra’s disappearance.

The 21-year-old went missing from her High Street, Windsor home on Saturday, 25 February 1984.
