Man, 62, charged over alleged financial misconduct linked to CFMEU training wing

Victoria Police detectives have charged a 62-year-old man as part of an investigation into alleged financial misconduct linked to the CFMEU training wing in Port Melbourne.

In a statement, Victoria Police said information was provided by CFMEU investigators to police last month, after which time detectives from Taskforce Hawk commenced an investigation.

A warrant was executed on Friday at a Ferntree Gully address and a 62-year-old Ferntree Gully was interviewed by police.

He was subsequently charged with 21 offences including seven counts each of make a false document, use a false document and obtain property by deception.

The man was bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on 22 January, 2026.

Police will allege the man falsified a number of invoices dating back to June 2024, with the most recent alleged offending in May 2025.

Operation Hawk was established in July 2024 to specifically target criminal behaviour linked to the construction industry and transitioned to Taskforce Hawk in June 2025. This was in response to a number of fresh allegations of serious and violent criminal behaviour, Police said.

“Taskforce Hawk is focused on assessing new intelligence and evidence relating to allegations of criminal behaviour linked to the construction industry.”

“It also continues to proactively target organised crime associated with the sector, including a focus on any individuals employed within the construction industry who have known links to outlaw motorcycle gangs.

“Police are also instigating approaches with relevant industry stakeholders to gather intelligence, as well as working closely with a range of law enforcement partners, regulators and government authorities,” Victoria Police said.
