Man, 53, arrested after phone threat made to hospital

A 53-year-old man has been charged by NSW Police after a threatening phone call was allegedly made to Wollongong Hospital yesterday.

Officers were called to the hospital on Loftus Street at around 6.50pm on Saturday after a report of a threat being made by phone was received by Police.

“Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and conducted a search of the building, with nothing located,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Following inquiries, police attended a home on Northcliffe Drive, Port Kembla, and arrested a 53-year-old man. It is alleged during the arrest, the man spat at police.”

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with use carriage service to make hoax threat, and assault police officer in the execution of their duty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday March 18th.
