Boys charged over burglary with machetes

Police have charged two teenagers after they say the pair threatened a 50-year-old woman with machetes during a burglary in Coopers Plains overnight.

In a statement, Queensland Police said that at around 10.40pm on Saturday, two teenage boys armed with machetes gained access to a Macknish Crescent residence.

“It will be further alleged the two boys entered a bedroom and threatened an occupant, a 50-year-old woman, demanding her car keys. They then fled the scene. The woman sustained minor injuries,” said Police.

A garage remote and house keys were allegedly stolen by the pair.

“It will be further alleged the two boys also attempted to force entry to a Lewis Street residence around the same time but were unsuccessful.”

Police arrested a 13-year-old Sunnybank boy and 16-year-old Maroochy River boy in Sunnybank at around 1.30am.

They were both charged with seven offences each, including enter dwelling with intent by break at night in company, wilful damage, armed robbery, enter premises and commit indictable offence and face masked, blackened or disguise with intent to commit indictable offence.

Their Police bail was refused, and they are due to appear before Brisbane Childrens Court on February 3.
