The housemate of a 74-year-old Queensland woman has been charged with her murder.
Police say Susan Walker (pictured) died from severe head injuries inside her Macquarie Avenue home in Molendinar on the Gold Coast at around 8.40pm on Sunday.
Jason Thomas King, the 50-year-old man who was renting a room in Ms Walker’s home, has been charged with murder.
Police say the pair were not related and the incident is not being treated as domestic violence-related.
“This is a tragic incident in which a 74-year-old woman has lost her life, so we have to be respectful of not only her but also the family involved,” said Gold Coast Police Acting Chief Superintendent, Rhys Wildman.
Police say Mr King alerted neighbours to Ms Walker’s death. Police discovered her body in the home a short time later.
Mr King appeared in Southport Magistrate Court via video link this morning.
