The NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s last operational Ford Falcon has been retired.
The Ford Falcon XR6 was attached to Surry Hills Highway Patrol, and clocked up more than 86,000 kilometres in its time on the roads of NSW as a patrol vehicle.
It was deployed to jobs across the state, including bushfires and border operations.
The car will now enter the de-commissioning stage with Fleet Services, before being auctioned off to a new home.
“This is a big end of an era,” said Sergeant Ashley Pearsall (pictured) of NSW Police Fleet Services.
“Unfortunately we’ve lost local manufacturing in Australia. So we have to now source vehicles from the current market. We’ve been utilising the BMW 530D and the Chrysler SRT.”
“For over some 30 years, these cars go back well and truly into late 60s and 70s.”
