An elderly couple were rescued from their flood inundated home south of Lismore last night, with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter called in to airlift the stranded pair.
The chopper was deployed at around 8.15pm following a call for aerial assistance from the NSW Ambulance Service who were unable to reach the Gundurimba couple who both required medical assistance.
“The helicopter was able to land on the road close to the property,” the Westpac Helicopter team said in a statement today.
“The Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team checked both patients over before they were airlifted to Ballina Airport. They were then taken by road ambulance to hospital. Both were in a stable condition.”
Well done to NSW Ambulance and Westpac Rescue Helicopter for their brave efforts.
