Driver charged over Brooloo double-fatal crash

Queensland Police have charged a 61-year-old man with manslaughter following a a double-fatal car crash at Brooloo yesterday that claimed the life of an elderly man and woman.

Police were called to Callemonda Road and Mary Valley Road at around 2pm following reports a Suzuki Kizashi car had crashed into a tree.

“Two passengers, an 83-year-old Kandanga man and an 85-year-old Gympie woman, were declared deceased at the scene,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

The driver, a 61-year-old Valdora man, has been charged with two counts of manslaughter.

He remains under guard in Sunshine Coast University Hospital with serious injuries and is expected to appear in Gympie Magistrates Court by way of bedside hearing today. 

“Investigators continue to appeal to anyone who may have relevant information leading up to the crash or dashcam footage to come forward,” Police said.
