Canberrans scoop up solar loan deals

More than 5,000 Canberra households have applied for over $55 million in loans under the Sustainable Household Scheme – with solar and combined solar and battery packages leading the charge as most popular products.

The Sustainable Household Scheme was designed to allow more Canberra households to benefit from a households investments like rooftop solar panels.

ACT residents, particularly in Belconnen, Tuggeranong, and Gungahlin, have purchased a combined 20 MW of roof top solar though the Scheme which is equivalent to the power generated by Royalla Solar Farm.

More than 1,500 households are taking the opportunity to upgrade their appliances such as electric heating and cooling systems, hot water heat pumps and electric stove tops as they reach the end of their life cycle.

Canberrans are also taking advantage of electric vehicles being added to the scheme with 45 applications received so far. Locals who purchase an electric vehicle will also receive a stamp duty exemption and two years of free vehicle registration.
