A teenager has been charged after an 81-year-old man was allegedly assaulted during a break and enter in the state’s north west last year.
Police say that at around 1.15am on Monday 30 August 2021, the victim was in his home on Warrior Street in Wee Waa, when he was awoken and heard noises coming from inside the premises.
Police will allege the man was confronted by two unknown people before he was pushed in the chest, causing him to fall.
“The unknown pair fled the scene and the man contacted emergency services,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The man was uninjured; however, damage was caused to the premises and several items were taken, including a small amount of cash.”
Police located a number of items at the premises – including a knife, an axe, and a t-shirt – which were seized for forensic examination.
Following ongoing inquiries, a 14-year-old boy was arrested at a home on Charles Street in Wee Waa yesterday afternoon.
He was taken to Wee Waa Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal.
The boy was refused bail and will appear at a children’s court today.
“Police will further allege in court about 8pm on Tuesday 20 April 2021, the boy and a second male forced entry to a unit block on Mitchell Street, Wee Waa, and entered a unit, before leaving a short time later taking cash.”
“No one was at the premises at the time of the incident; however, damage was caused to the door of the building and inside the unit,” Police said.
