Man, 68, charged over antisemitic graffiti attack

Victoria Police have charged a 68-year-old man following an incident of prejudice motivated graffiti on a property fence in Middle Park on 31 January.

It’s alleged a passerby approached the male offender and was spat on and had a packet of bacon thrown at him, Police said in a statement.

“A 68-year-old man was arrested in Macedon today. The Macedon man was charged with criminal damage, unlawful assault and mark offensive graffiti.”

He was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 6 May.

“There is absolutely no place at all in our society for antisemitic or hate-based symbols and behaviour.”

“Police will always treat reports of such crime seriously,” Victoria Police said.
