Boy charged over Dubbo handbag theft

A teenage boy is due to appear in court today charged after allegedly stealing a 77-year-old woman’s handbag in a shopping centre carpark at Dubbo yesterday.

Police say the woman was pushing a trolley of groceries to her car in the Macquarie Street carpark just before 1pm on Friday, when her handbag was grabbed by the teenage boy, who ran off towards Bligh Street.

“A 47-year-old man chased the boy across Hans Cloval Oval but was allegedly threatened when he confronted the teen,” NSW Police said in a statement today.

“Bystanders intervened and police were alerted; a 15-year-old boy was arrested after a short foot pursuit.”

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he has been charged with steal from person, intimidation, and offensive behaviour.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Children’s Court today.

Police say the woman was shaken but not injured in the incident.

“Police thank the community members for their assistance in this incident,” NSW Police said.
