RSPCA South Australia is appealing for public help to identify the person who they say callously abandoned four kittens at Greenacres Library northeast of Adelaide.
The kittens, which are believed to be around six weeks old, were discovered by a library staff member in an afterhours library box slot on the morning of Monday 12 January 2026.
Security footage shows a man dumping the kittens at around 10pm on Saturday January 10th. Fortunately, all kittens appeared unharmed and were taken to the Animal Welfare League at Wingfield for assessment.
Sadly, the RSPCA SA says this is the third time kittens have been dumped in the afterhours library book slot at Greenacres Library.
Library staff are currently in the process of trying to source CCTV footage in hopes of identifying the offender’s vehicle registration number.
Anyone with any information that could assist with this investigation is urged to contact RSPCA’s emergency hotline on 1300 477 722.
Abandoning an animal is an offence under South Australia’s Animal Welfare Act, and anyone found guilty can face up to two years imprisonment or a $20,000 fine. Additionally, aggravated cruelty charges where an animal suffers serious harm or death can result in up to four years imprisonment or a $50,000 fine.
