A 54-year-old Bundaberg man has copped a $667 fine for driving without due care and attention after he and his passenger had to be rescued from a vehicle in flood waters at The Causeway in Bargara this morning.
Bundaberg Police were deployed to The Causeway at around 7.40am today following reports two people were stranded in a vehicle in floodwaters.
Police soon located the vehicle and officers were able to safely remove both occupants, with no injuries reported.
In a separate incident, rescue crews were called to Booubyjan after reports a man had become trapped in floodwaters on the Burnett Highway at around 6.50am.
“Upon arrival, crews located a man on the roof of a vehicle near Murgon Gayndah Road,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
The rescue helicopter and PolAir was called to assist but both were grounded due to worsening weather conditions.
“Swift water crews in a motorised vessel managed to retrieve the man around 10.45am. He was uninjured,” Police said.
Then, just before 10.20am, Police were called to Brian Pastures Road in Gayndah, North Burnett, to reports two women inside a vehicle had become trapped in floodwaters.
“Crews arrived to find both women had safely extradited themselves from the vehicle,” Police said.
Police are continuing to urge motorists to check road conditions before travelling and never drive through floodwaters.
“Locals should drive to the conditions, slow down, and take extra precautions when travelling in flood impacted areas.”
“The message is simple – if it is flooded- forget it.”
