Two-time Academy Award-winning performer turned politician, Glenda Jackson, has died at the age of 87.
Her agent today confirmed she had passed away on Thursday at her home in London after a short period of illness.
The British actress had recently completed filming The Great Escaper with Michael Caine.
She won her first Academy Award in 1971 for her role as a headstrong artist in the film adaptation of DHÂ Lawrence’s novel ‘Women in Love’.

Her second Oscar came in 1974 for the romantic comedy, ‘A Touch of Class’ in which she played a fashion designer caught up in a dangerous love affair with an American businessman in London.
Ms Jackson also won two Emmy awards for playing England’s Queen Elizabeth I in the BBC’s 1971 television series, ‘Elizabeth R’.

After more than 30 years in the acting industry, she quit the stage and screen to enter politic, winning a seat in the UK parliament in 1992.
She briefing returned to acting in her later years, winning a Tony Award for her role in ‘Three Tall Women’ in 2018.
She is survived by her 54-year-old son, Daniel Hodges.
