A 65-year-old school bus driver has been charged with alleged child abuse material offences following an investigation by NSW Police Strike Force Trawler.
The strike force is an ongoing investigation by State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.
In April, detectives received a referral from Queensland Police Service’s Argos team in relation to a 65-year-old man residing in Port Macquarie.
Following extensive investigations, at around 6.35am yesterday, strike force detectives executed a search warrant in Port Macquarie.
During a search of the address, Police allegedly located and seized child abuse material stored on various electronic devices.
A 65-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station, where he was charged with possess etc child abuse data-use carriage service, use carriage service-solicit child abuse material and use carriage service make available child abuse.
He was refused bail and appeared in Port Macquarie Local Court the same day, where he was formally refused bail to appear in the same court on Thursday 21 August.
