An 83-year-old man has been winched to safety after suffering a knee injury while fishing near Broughton Island off the coast of Port Stephens today.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service was tasked by Ambulance NSW to attend the Island shortly before 1pm today after reports the fisherman had injured himself and fallen overboard.
“It was reported that the male had injured his knee whilst fishing and was unable to get back to his boat,” the Westpac rescue service said in a statement.
“The Westpac Rescue Helicopter attended Broughton Island and winch inserted the Ambulance New South Wales Critical Care Paramedic to the male.
“The Critical Care Paramedic treated and stabilised the 83-year-old before they were winched to the aircraft and flown direct to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition suffering a knee injury.”
