75-year-old Fingal Bay surfer airlifted to hospital

A 75-year-old surfer has been airlifted to hospital after suffering injuries while surfing at Fingal Bay.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by New South Wales Ambulance shortly after 9am this morning following reports of a person being dumped in the surf at Fingal Bay and suffering back injuries.

“The 75-year-old male patient was dumped on a sand bank while paddling his paddle board causing possible back and spinal injuries,” the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew said in a statement.

“Members of Fingal Bay SLSC and Lifeguards supported the gentleman in the water and retrieved him back to the beach where he was treated on scene by NSWA paramedics and the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team for neck injuries prior to being airlifted direct to the JHH in a stable condition for further specialist medical treatment.”
