Ramsay Health to reopen failed Orange hospital

Ramsay Health Care has acquired Orange Private Hospital in central west NSW – less than two months after the facility went into voluntary administration – with the hospital to be rebranded as Ramsay Surgical Centre Orange.

Ramsay Health says the takeover will allow it to take on aspects of the hospital’s operations for the ongoing benefit of the community, doctors and employees.

Ramsay Surgical Centre Orange is set continue to perform surgical procedures in the same location and will become a short-stay hospital for patients undergoing treatments who do not require an overnight stay.

The site contains operating theatres, recovery areas, a central sterile supply department and pre-admission area – all located on level 4 of the Bloomfield Medical Centre building.

Ramsay Health Care says any patients requiring overnight stays can be treated at the nearby 108-year-old Dudley Private Hospital, which it also operates.

CEO of Ramsay Surgical Centre Orange and Dudley Private Hospital, Mandy Rutherford, said the acquisition was an opportunity to combine two groups of healthcare professionals into one collaborative team.

“We look forward to welcoming the former Orange Private Hospital staff and doctors into our Ramsay family and embedding them in our unique culture of ‘people caring for people’,” Ms Rutherford said.

Prior to its collapse, Orange Private Hospital, which opened in July 2021, employed 64 staff and 32 surgeons.
