Volunteers wanted for cannabis study

A new study investigating the efficacy and safety of oral medicinal cannabis in the management of symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is looking for volunteers in NSW and Victoria.

Researchers say initial clinical and pre-clinical studies have shown cannabinoid therapies improve symptoms for sufferers of IBS, and this study is aimed at determining the optimum dosage and composition of medicinal cannabis.

Eligible participants will be asked to check in once a week from home in addition to coming into the clinic once a month for three months, where their symptoms will be observed and monitored.

“Sufferers of IBS have been looking for more effective solutions to their pain and symptoms, and we hope this trial will establish a clearer path to giving them relief”, said Principal Investigator Dr Alistair Vickery.

“We’re looking for patients over the age of 18, with IBS for more than 6 months who continue to suffer symptoms despite other treatments. If you fit those criteria, to be considered for the trial, go and see your gastroenterologist or GP and get a referral.”
