Summernats to burn out Red Centre

The ultimate ‘festival of wheels’ will return to Alice Springs this Father’s Day weekend, with the sixth annual Red CentreNATS to be held from 4-6 September featuring an amended program and ticketing structure in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NT Major Events Company CEO, Tim Watsford said this year’s event would host the usual spectacles including the famous street parade, drags, burnouts, street cruising, grass driving, show ‘n’ shine, 4WD-ing, motorkhana and more.

“Red CentreNATS is a fast and furious entry on the Alice Springs event calendar that provides non-stop fun and entertainment over the Fathers’ Day weekend. The event provides an economic boost to the region while giving Territorians the chance to watch incredible motorsports competitions right here in the NT,” said Mr Watsford.

“To confirm the program with just a few tweaks is great news for fans, and we continue to work with the Department of Health around our COVID-19 Safety Plan to keep the event fun and safe for all.”

The program will again feature entertainment across three venues; Blatherskite Park, Alice Springs Inland Dragway (ASID) and Lasseters Hotel Casino.

In line with the event’s COVID-19 Safety Plan, new for 2020 is an After Party at Lasseters instead of a Podium Party, with trophies awarded directly to recipients with their vehicles throughout the event this year.

Other COVID-19 precautions will include increased hygiene practices and facilities throughout the venues, along with changes to the flow of people and the prominent display of COVID-19 messaging.

“There will be a dedicated Fan Zone at ASID with two 40sq m super screens for fans to catch all the action from the nearby track in lieu of open public access to The Hill,” said Mr Watsford.

To follow physical distancing guidelines, access to The Hill will be reserved for existing Chrome Pass holders, and competition entrants and crews, with a capacity of 500 people at any one time.

The ticketing structure for this year’s Red CentreNATS has also been adjusted, and a Three-Day Pass is now available instead of a Chrome Pass. The Three-Day Pass provides access to Blatherskite Park and the Fan Zone at ASID for $30. To buy your ticket or to enter visit www.redcentrenats.com.au

“The Summernats team look forward once again to the Red CentreNATS in Alice Springs this Father’s Day weekend. The NT Government has done an awesome job preparing for a COVID-safe event, and RCN will be a fantastic festival for those Aussie motoring enthusiasts who can get themselves and their cars to Alice Springs safely,” said Summernats co-owner, Andy Lopez.

“We’ll be streaming hours of action from the festival for those around Australia and the world who can’t make it.”

Border restrictions apply at all access points into the Northern Territory, to protect our community against the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions can change at short notice. At the time of writing, anyone travelling from a declared COVID-19 hot spot will be required to undertake 14 days of mandatory quarantine on arrival in the NT, at their own expense.
