New Tuart Lakes memorial honours veterans

Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village in WA hosted a service at their newly renovated Memorial for Remembrance Day on November 11.

The Memorial will importantly recognise 19 ex-service men and women from the Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village with individual service plaques placed into the garden edge, to create a beautiful ‘garden of honour’.

Three of these residents are Vietnam Veterans, with the remainder all being ex-service men and women across all three services.

“It is incredible to see the recognition of those who have served our country at this Lifestyle Community and the ongoing support to their residents involved in the service,” Village management said in a statement.

The preceding’s began at 10:30am with a short service and one minute’s silence at 11am. After this, residents and veterans moved to the main clubhouse to enjoy morning tea and drinks.

Village homeowner Graham French, who served in Vietnam 1965-66, says, “When I first came to the village 10 years ago, there weren’t too many big memorial events. We organised an ANZAC day event one year and since then the support has been massive, it’s become such an important day of recognition within the village”.

“We’re just in awe of the whole thing. The support from the village has been incredible, a lot of work has been done and so many homeowners have donated their time to help create this unique memorial. It’s great to have something like this in your very own backyard.”
