Melbourne quarantine hotel shut down

The Victorian Government has reportedly shut down its Holiday Inn quarantine hotel after two new locally-acquired cases of COVID-19 were recorded overnight.

The two cases were announced late last night – one is a hotel quarantine worker at the Holiday Inn at Melbourne airport, and the other is a guest of the hotel.

Guests at the hotel were this morning being evacuated and have been seen being escorted onto buses in the hotel’s driveway. It’s not yet known where they are being transported to.

Earlier this week, another quarantine staffer at the Holiday Inn tested positive, sparking a wave of testing across the city.

It was confirmed yesterday that that first infected worker had the UK strain of the virus. Investigations are still underway as to how the worker became infected.
