A man who allegedly threw his 75-year-old mother down a cliff was found hiding under a bed when police arrived to arrest him yesterday.

Police say the 54-year-old man had argued with his mother before allegedly forcing her into his car and driving to the Snowy Mountains Highway at Talbingo on Tuesday afternoon, where he then threw her four metres down an embankment.

A rescue operation ensued, with the woman rescued safely by police, SES staff and paramedics.

She suffered bruising to her face and deep cuts to her arms and legs in the assault.

Police yesterday arrested the woman’s son at a home in Talbingo – where they reportedly found him cowering under a bed inside the house.

He’s been charged with kidnapping with intent to commit serious indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, destroying property and driving with a suspended licence.

He was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today.
