Businesses urged to check CCTV for missing 82-year-old

Police are appealing for businesses to review their CCTV footage as a search continues for an 82-year-old man missing from his Central Coast home for almost a week.

Bernard Anable (pictured) left his home on Rushby Street in Bateau Bay about 5pm last Tuesday (January 4).

“Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District commenced an investigation into his whereabouts when he was reported missing by family, with ongoing searches of the area,” NSW Police said in a statement today.

Further inquiries have identified Bernard walking north along The Entrance Road at Bateau Bay about 1am last Wednesday (January 5), Police said.

As physical searches continue, investigators are urging business owners along The Entrance Road at Bateau Bay and in the surrounding area to view their available CCTV footage from Wednesday, January 5 onward.

Tuggerah Lakes Police District Chief Inspector Al Janson says some businesses have either been closed due to the holiday period or staff shortages.

“There are shops along that stretch of road which may be returning to work today and haven’t had a chance to review their CCTV holdings. We are urging businesses to look for Bernard on their footage from the Wednesday morning and beyond.”

“This also extends to persons who may have dashcam footage from The Entrance Road between these times, anyone with footage which can assist police is urged to contact Wyong police,” Ch Insp Janson said.

Mr Anable is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 170cm-175cm tall, of slim build, bald with blue eyes.

He was last seen wearing a grey shirt, blue and white board shorts, black slides and a red cap. He wears a bracelet with his name on it.

Police and family hold concerns for Mr Anable’s welfare due to his age and because he has a number of existing medical conditions.

He is known to frequent the Umina area.

Anyone with information about Mr Anable’s whereabouts is urged to contact Wyong Police Station on 4356 6099.
